How To Hard Reset The N900 To The Factory State

As I have mentioned before, unlike Nokia’s Symbian devices, the N900 does not have a code that you can enter to format the device and restore it to the factory state. However, if you like playing with software in the extras-devel repositories, chances are that sooner or later you will like a fresh start and want the N900 to be restored to the state in which you first picked it up.

There is no seemingly easy way to do this and I really hope Nokia is doing something about it. That …

With each passing day we see something awesome come out, first it was Windows 3.1, then we saw Windows NT 4.0, next was Windows 95, followed by Mer, Debian, Android and now even Windows 98. That is seven different operating systems apart from its very own Maemo 5.
While it is true that most of the OS’s above are more ‘proof of concept’ rather than being actually usable, it still goes to show the awesome power the N900 packs. The one exception …

Demo & How To Enable Portrait Mode Browsing On The N900

The PR 1.1 firmware update brings portrait mode web browsing to the N900. In order to enable auto switching between landscape and portrait when the phone is turned hit Ctrl + Shift + O on the N900’s keyboard. The next time you tilt your N900 to portrait, the web browser will automatically switch as well. You can turn this behavior off by hitting Ctrl + Shift + O again.
I’ve put together a very quick demo of the portrait mode browsing on the N900, have a look.

This is a very welcome …
